ENZ welcomes International Education Leadership Statement

ENZ welcomes International Education Leadership Statement

Education New Zealand: Media Release 20/09/11

Education New Zealand welcomes the Government’s new Leadership Statement for International Education.

“This is an exciting time for international education in New Zealand,” says Mr Charles Finny, Education New Zealand Chair.

“We welcome the fact that Government is setting ambitious targets for the education sector and seeing them as a key component in its economic growth strategy.

“Our international education industry is in a great place to grow and we look forward to working with the sector and other agencies – Tourism, Immigration, MFAT, NZTE and Ministry of Education, along with our regional bodies – to deliver on these goals.

The Government released the first version of its statement today which aims to double the economic value of international education to $5 billion over the next 15 years.

The new crown agency, Education New Zealand, will work closely with the sector to facilitate this growth.

“Achieving these goals will be challenging, but they will be achievable if we deliver a quality product, if the NZ Inc dynamic works well, and if we can bring the entire sector with us. This includes working closely with education promotion agencies throughout New Zealand.
“Ultimately it will be up to the sector to deliver results the Government is seeking. Our role is to help the sector get there.

“International education is a vital part of our economy and we want to see it grow even further. The new agency is a key part of achieving this.

“We look forward to working closely with the sector over the years ahead.”
