CPIT staff launch third strike
CPIT staff who are union members have today gone on strike for a third time, leaving their jobs at 2pm this afternoon. The union and polytechnic management had been negotiating a new collective agreement all morning. However, employers refuse to move from their position that they want control over several weeks of the staff’s leave entitlements, as well as wanting them to work more hours. TEU has tried to offer compromises, but without success so far.
The striking staff are currently gathered at the Sullivan Avenue entrance of the Trades Innovation Institute where education minister Anne Tolley is also supposed to be visiting the polytechnic's chief executive this afternoon.
Union members are likely to strike for most of the rest of the afternoon.
