StudyIt Wins Fourth Victory In A Row
Votes from thousands of grateful students last night won StudyIt (www.studyit.org,nz)
a record fourth victory in a row in the Net Guide’s People Choice Awards as Best Student Site.
StudyIt is a free, safe online support site developed and managed by CWA New Media (a business unit of Learning Media)
that is used by more than 33,000 NCEA students. Established by the Ministry of Education in 2004, it has three main
sections - a content section, containing Level 1-3 NCEA achievement standards, repackaged with student input; a support
section with study and exam advice and encouragement (ideas to stay motivated); and ‘Communicate’, which has forums and
email addresses for maths, science and English mentors.
Expert teachers are employed as mentors/moderators to respond to student questions on the forums. The service is
available 24/7, with mentors replying to questions at night, in the weekends, and in the holidays. Students really rate
the help they get from both teachers and fellow students:
‘ The teachers here are awesome, they give you hints on what to do, but don’t give out the entire answer’.
‘The most remarkable thing on this site is when students who once stumbled over a problem go back and help other
students having the same problem by sharing how they overcame it’.
“StudyIt has played a definitive role in helping me get the best grades in almost all of my subjects for two
years now.
While StudyIt is used consistently throughout the year, it’s particularly busy during exam time, with over 18,200 posts
during November 2010. This year the site has been a godsend to Christchurch students whose study has been disrupted by
the earthquakes. In addition to the Ministry’s ongoing backing, StudyIt welcomes other financial supporters so that it
can continue to provide its invaluable service.
