Kohanga Reo at Waitangi Tribunal today
Te Kohanga Reo Trust Board will have their application for urgency heard at 10am today at the Waitangi Tribunal, Level 2, Fujitisu Tower, 141 The Terrace in Wellington.
The Trust Board has applied for an urgent hearing because the Crown has not properly informed itself about the nature and kaupapa of Kohanga Reo. The Trust Board claims that the Crown is undertaking further reforms which will be prejudicial to Kohanga Reo and the survivial of te reo Maori.
The Trust Board will argue that the Crown has directly discriminated against kohanga and sabotages kohanga reo as a primary vehicle for revitalising Te Reo Maori as a taonga.
The urgency hearing is scheduled to commence at 10am today and will continue until 5pm, Thursday 18 August.
Te Kohanga Reo Trust Board members and whanau will be at the urgent hearing today and tomorrow.
