Fine Dining is Back at CPIT

Fine dining returns to CPIT next month with degustation dinners at Visions on Campus restaurant created by the freshest new talent in Christchurch.

The CPIT training restaurant is again opening its doors to the public for 12 to 16 course degustation dinners, offered on Thursdays and Fridays from 11 to 26 August. Expect high standards, a beautiful setting and reasonable prices plus the satisfaction of contributing to the training of the next generation of hospitality professionals.

“If you like food, the degustation menu changes each week,” says Visions on Campus manager Jason Newton. “There are four courses, with three to four items per course for a very reasonable $40, plus optional wine matching with wine by the half glass.

“The degustation dinners are always popular, and I’m not surprised, with the current lack of restaurants in Christchurch, that some of the dates have already sold out. People need somewhere nice to go to have dinner and we offer a unique experience.”

The CPIT students will also cook up and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at Visions on Campus periodically through to December 15.

While they design the dishes, cook the food and serve the guests, if it wasn’t for the occasional glimpse of a tutor in the background, patrons of Visions on Campus wouldn’t guess that all the chefs and front of house staff are students.
Cooking for and serving the public is part of the assessment for students of CPIT’s cooking and hospitality programmes. Not a plate leaves the kitchen without the approval of CPIT tutors, but the students are capable and keen to make an excellent impression.

For breakfast try the three-egg Spanish Omelette ($9), for lunch the Open Steak Sandwich ($12.50) or Asian Style Noodles ($10.50). Dinner options include a fondue starter ($9) and a mouth-watering selection of mains including the gluten free, vegetarian polenta ($20) and Akaroa Salmon ($24).
