Students Creations Diverge
Design and Arts College of New Zealand's (D) are kicking off their August series of exhibitions with second year Fine Arts students Diverge, on Thursday 4 August at Open Polytechnic, opening at 5.30pm.
Each student will be exhibiting their best work from their second year of study before beginning the third year of the Diploma of Fine Arts (Advanced). Students have chosen from Painting, Drawing, Photography, 3D Sculpture and Printmaking. Many of the 13 students have chosen to exhibit their 3D sculpture, a first for a second year Fine Arts exhibition.
Exhibitions are important to students as it teaches them the fundamentals of working within the industry. Students were to work together to come up with a title for their exhibition, as well as an image and style for their invitation. "Some of the most powerful works of art have been made when artists respond to adversity. The earthquakes have certainly impacted on the lives of the Fine Art students at D and this shows through in the strength of the work showcased in Diverge. The exhibition gives the Fine Art students an opportunity to experience exhibiting in a public space with strict deadlines, setup criteria and critique" says Janet Abbott, Fine Arts Programme Coordinator.
The public are invited to attend Diverge on Thursday 4th August, 5.30-7pm at Open Polytechnic, Level 1, 166 Moorhouse Ave, Christchurch.
