Funding for EIT Trades Programmes

Media Release

Funding for EIT Trades Programmes

EIT is welcoming additional Tertiary Education Commission funding which will boost the institute’s pre-apprenticeship trades training programmes.

The extra funding has been triggered by the shortage in qualified tradespersons and builds on the Government’s Skills for Canterbury initiative.

TEC has identified EIT as a tertiary education provider well-placed to assist in meeting the forecasted significant and growing need for trades skills in New Zealand.

The funding will be put to immediate use, with EIT adding another stream of classes for its popular pre-apprenticeship Level 3 carpentry and Level 2 mechanical engineering programmes. These classes will start on 1 August.

School-leavers aged 16 or 17 who are interested in enrolling may qualify to have their fees paid under the Youth Guarantee scheme.
