BEST Pacific Institute of Education celebrates future leaders by hosting two prominent leaders
This evening, BEST Pacific Institute of Education and BEST Pasifika Leadership Academy launched a new Scholarship Fund
for their Pasifika Leadership programme in Auckland. The programme is dedicated to identifying, teaching and mentoring
Pasifika leaders.
"We were absolutely delighted to have Hon Hekia Parata deliver the keynote address at the launch; she is an inspiration
to students and future Pasifika leaders," said Anita Finnigan, Director of BEST.
BEST were also very pleased to host Sir Wira Gardiner, Chair of the Tertiary Education Commission.
Ms Finnigan said, "It was an honour to host Sir Wira at the launch; he is an outstanding role model in many sectors and
industries including for Maori and Pasifika leaders".
Budget 2011 announced 750 additional places for high performing Private Training Establishments delivering on the
government's tertiary education priorities.
"BEST welcomed the Budget announcement last Thursday, and we look forward to demonstrating to Sir Wira how this PTE is
providing high quality education and training to Maori, Pasifika, young people and students from all around Auckland,"
said Ms Finnigan.
The launch of the new Scholarship Fund also included an address from Beatrice Faumuina, Chief Executive of BEST Pasifika
Leadership Academy and world champion athlete, and two of the potential candidates for the Pasifika Leadership
programme.
