Squish, Squash, Squelch - the journey begins
The Remarkables Parents Association (RPA) in conjunction with Remarkables Primary School (RPS) and Amisfield Wine
Company launched a fantastic fundraising initiative for the RPA and a remarkable journey for the school pupils on Friday
1 April at the "Great Grape Stomp" in Queenstown.
Mainfreight delivered the premium Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc grapes donated by Amisfield Wine Company
for 279 pupils of Remarkables Primary School to stomp. Pupil, Ollie Ridd (aged 6) started the stomping to shouts and
applause from students and parents after winning the RPS wine label competition with the very fitting name "Remarkables
Squish, Squash, Squelch."
The vigorous and noisy stomping of the grapes launched an exciting learning journey for the school. In the coming weeks
the children (aged 5-10) will be working alongside scientists, business people, chefs and artists to develop and create
delectable produce from field to table (including ginger beer, bread, cheese and grape jelly, as well as wine).
The stomping also started a major 14-month long fundraising initiative for the RPA to raise money for the school to
purchase essential books and resources for the information centre.
RPA Chairperson Tracey Pedersen said she was amazed with the success of the launch of the fundraising initiative. "It
was great to see every child participating with the crush and the noise and energy created was staggering. We appreciate
the generous support and expertise of Amisfield Wine Company and look forward to seeing what our children learn," Mrs
Pedersen said.
Limited bottles of Remarkables Squish, Squash, Squelch Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc will be available for purchase at
the end of the year followed by premium Pinot Noir in May / June 2012.
