Students celebrate scholarship success
On 25 February 2011, The Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec) held its annual scholarship ceremony at Petone
Campus. 43 scholarships were awarded including the WelTec Council Maori and the Tamaiti Whangai Sports Academy
Scholarships.
Dr Linda Sissons, WelTec Chief Executive commented, ‘’ the quality of people putting themselves forward for scholarships
this year is particularly high. Competition was tough - applicants’ academic results demonstrated high achievement
levels.’’
Carterton resident, Trent Lett applied for the WelTec Secondary School Scholarship through Wairarapa College. Trent was
delighted to learn he was granted a $2000 WelTec Secondary School scholarship towards the Bachelor of Engineering
Technology (BEng Tech) for 2011 at WelTec.
The programme at WelTec ticked all the boxes for Trent. ‘’I enjoy the practical and design aspect of the programme, in
addition working outdoors in the field on various projects is an added bonus’’ ‘’I chose WelTec to develop my practical
skills and knowledge of Engineering.’’ Trent is majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a passion for developing
military precision weaponry. His enthusiasm comes from winning 1st place in engineering and the engineering cup in years
11 and 12.
Further students from ten secondary schools in the Hutt Valley, Wellington and Wairarapa also received scholarships at
the ceremony.
