UC Accommodation students support people in need
University of Canterbury students living at UC Accommodation Student Village have donated $2,500 to support the
Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust Westpac Trust helicopter service and $2,500 to support the Child Cancer
“UC Accommodation Student Village students voted to make their annual donation to help people in need of emergency air
transport and to help children with cancer”, said Darel Hall Village Director of UC Accommodation which covers the
student accommodation at University Hall, Ilam Apartments and Sonoda Christchurch Campus.
“It’s all part of our development ‘Grow’ programme to get students to think about those less fortunate than themselves
and to make a contribution. This is another example of students showing their willingness to contribute to our community
just as they did after the earthquake last year”, said Darel Hall.
“This year our students will take part in volunteer events, cleaning university waterways, recycling, and an energy
saving project. It’s all part of the ‘Live, Learn & Grow’ residential programme offered exclusively at UC Accommodation Halls”, said Darel Hall.
“The donation is the result of fines collected from students during the year for minor misdemeanours and averages out to
around $3 per resident. Each year students vote on which charity will receive the donation. This year they choose these
worthy two”, said Darel Hall.
