Food for fines
Whanganui’s City Mission Food Bank has benefited from the lateness of UCOL’s library users.
The unique initiative meant students with outstanding fines could clear their debt with a donation to the community Food
Bank. Students responded well to the ‘Can that fine’ opportunity says Academic Administrator of the School of Design,
Petrina Clark. “Our students were more than happy to give more than they needed to,” says Petrina.
For the third year running the staff and students at Whanganui UCOL have combined their efforts to show their support of
the City Mission Food Bank and the community they serve.
“This is an annual event at UCOL and part of our UCOL culture. I am very impressed by the student’s contribution. Even
with final exams on, the students have still managed to give big,” says Petrina.
The Palmerston North UCOL campus also took up the challenge and their contributions will be distributed through the AS@U
student Food Bank.
“With the recession still affecting our community we are pleased to be able to help out and to give our support to the
City Mission Food Bank, especially around this time of year” Says Petrina.
