New Zealand Army Salutes Eit’s Support for Territorials
On behalf of EIT Hawke’s Bay, chief executive Chris Collins recently accepted the New Zealand Army’s Regional Employer
Support Award for supporting staff who serve as territorials.
Hawke’s Bay’s 40 territorials, whose headquarters are in Napier, were able to nominate their employers for the award.
EIT was nominated by Todd Rogers, recently appointed Head of School, Applied Technology and Trades. Together with three
tutors and half a dozen EIT students, Todd is a territorial attached to the 7th Wellington (City of Wellington’s Own)
and Hawke’s Bay Battalion Group.
Of the award, the battalion’s commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Jeremy Harker, said: “Without the support of
employers like EIT it would be very difficult for reserve soldiers to train and make a difference as part of the New
Zealand defence force.”
EIT also received a bronze award recognising the level of support achieved by EIT.
Territorial service involves training one weekend a month plus a 10-day annual training camp. A territorial studying for
her New Zealand Diploma in Business student at EIT recently had an exam brought forward by three days so she could
undertake basic training at Waiouru.
As a regional winner, EIT goes forward as a candidate for the New Zealand Employer Support Award.
