NorthTec Applied Arts tutors win prestigious awards

Media release: NorthTec Applied Arts tutors win prestigious awards

NorthTec Applied Arts tutor at its Rāwene campus, Sue Daly, has won the prestigious Arts and Culture Award in the annual Northland YWCA Women of Distinction Awards.

Sue is a highly regarded artist and art educator and has been tutoring on the Applied Arts programme in Rāwene for the past three years.


She was presented with her award at an awards ceremony in Whangarei recently.

Meanwhile NorthTec Applied Arts tutor at its Kerikeri campus, Scott McFarlane, has won the BDO Spicers Northland Art Competition. Entries for the competition are currently on display at The Centre in Kerikeri.

Director – Creative Industries and Humanities at NorthTec, Khalid Bahkshov said that the tutors’ success is indicative of the enormous talent amongst the teaching staff at NorthTec.

“We are very proud of our tutors’ success which contributes such a huge amount to our vision of being a centre of excellence for arts education in New Zealand/Aotearoa.


“Sue and Scott are both inspirational teachers and arts educators and are highly valued by the communities in which they live, teach and create.”

NorthTec is the Tai Tokerau (Northland) region's largest provider of tertiary education, with campuses and learning centres in Whangarei, Kerikeri, Rāwene, Kaikohe and Kaitaia. NorthTec also has over 60 community-based delivery points from Coatesville in rural Rodney to Ngataki in the Far North.
