Cancelled strike is a positive sign

Cancelled strike is a positive sign

The PPTA’s decision to cancel today’s strike action for year 10 students is a positive signal of their commitment to reaching a settlement, Secretary for Education Karen Sewell said today.

““Since bargaining resumed on Monday this week, I have repeatedly advised the PPTA that they had to cancel today’s strike action for bargaining to continue.

“I’m extremely disappointed that the PPTA only informed schools of their decision late yesterday afternoon. This very late notice has caused confusion for parents, students, and schools.

“I had asked for a decision much earlier.

“However, I’m very pleased that bargaining is continuing, and that both sides can continue to work together towards settlement,” Karen Sewell said.

“I hope that future strike action will be called off and that we can reach settlement this year.”
