Ali Hughes, CEO of CORE, awarded ATEM's highest award
Ali Hughes, CORE Education's CEO and General Manager, has been awarded the prestigious Association for Tertiary Management's (ATEM) Meritous Services Award at the association’s general meeting in Melbourne.
The award recognises outstanding contributions by members to the Association, and is ATEM's highest award for service. Her selection for this award was based on her exemplary service to the association over a sustained period as an office-bearer at Association level, and as Chair and member of the ATEM Committee. She has been a member of ATEM since 1997. She was Deputy Chair for a period, and then became Chair in 2005 until the end of 2009.
Ali is the first to receive the award in two years, and joins five other New Zealand recipients of the award since it's inception in 1996.
Ali said of the award, "I am proud of my work in the tertiary sector, and being recognised by the pre-eminent professional association in the sector".
The award adds to Ali’s earlier achievement in 2006 of being made a Fellow of ATEM. She received the Fellow award, once again, for a sustained period of commitment to the profession, and a superior level of achievement in both professional practice and professional development. This gives her the right to use the post nominal, ATEMF.
ATEM is Australasia's only professional body for tertiary education administrators and managers, representing around 1,350 individuals and 60 corporate members. It includes representatives from universities, technical colleges, polytechnics, private providers, government departments, and other related organisations. Its objective is to advance professional practice and institutional management.
Ali Hughes is the CEO and General Manager of CORE Education, a not-for-profit company devoted to providing research, project management, and professional development for educators and governments in New Zealand and overseas. Ali oversees CORE's eighty staff located throughout New Zealand. CORE Education itself has been nominated for several awards in 2010, and is a finalist in the Champion Canterbury Awards in the Service category.
Vince Ham, Director of research at CORE Education, said of Ali's achievement, "It is a thoroughly deserved acknowledgement of the time, energy and expertise Ali contributes, not just to CORE, but to the wider education community."
