Tailored training for Tony’s Tyres
UCOL and Tony’s Tyre Service have collaborated to provide a productive learning experience for ten of the tyre franchise’s employees.
The Tony’s Tyre Service staff from outlets throughout the lower North Island spent two days in UCOL’s Palmerston North automotive workshops and lecture rooms last month (September).
The intensive two day course included theory and practical application of wheel alignment, thorough pre-checks, suspension and steering layouts and was led by UCOL Automotive Lecturer Lance Funnell.
The Dean of Trades Kelly Gay says the Wheel Alignment Course was a perfect example of UCOL responding to industry’s needs with a tailored training package.
“We worked alongside Steve Deans to determine what up-skilling was required and how to meet the specific needs of Tony’s Tyre Service and their staff. We want more business’s to think of us not just as a source of potential apprentices but also for upskilling and training needs,” says Kelly. “We are far more flexible than many people realize.”
Tony’s Tyre Service Area Manager Steve Deans says his company has identified that wheel alignments are critical to preventing unnecessary wear due to misalignment. “Hence the importance of our people being well trained to ensure the customer’s best value for money.”
“We regard staff training as a ‘must’ and our relationship with UCOL has proved to be of great value,” says Steve.
