NorthTec student volunteers come forward
Media release: NorthTec student volunteers come forward to help with the International Rally of Whangarei in 2010
Enthusiastic NorthTec student volunteers gathered recently for a briefing session about next month’s International Rally of Whangarei. The prestigious international rally runs from 2 to 4 July with volunteers playing an important role in the success of the Whangarei-based event.
NorthTec students will be working with the organisers to set up rally headquarters and will help run the secretariat where event organisers are based in their temporary location in Whangarei’s Quayside Town Basin.
“NorthTec’s students will assist organisers with various aspects of running the event including the high profile ceremonial start and finish, and the separate clubmans’ finish,” said NorthTec’s Relationship Manager, Kirsten Love. “They also assist the results team as required during the event.”
Students from a range of programme areas including business, sport and recreation and te reo have volunteered their time to support the International Rally of Whangarei. Many of the student volunteers are also student mentors at NorthTec.
To recognise their contribution to the International Rally of Whangarei, one lucky NorthTec student volunteer will win a ride in the co-driver’s seat of one of the real rally cars at the official ‘shakedown’ on 2 July. Shakedown is the team’s official test session and takes place at Pohe Island, near central Whangarei, before the rally itself takes place over the weekend of 3 and 4 July.
NorthTec is proud to continue its association with the International Rally of Whangarei and is once again a sponsor of the International Rally of Whangarei in 2010.
