Leadership award for sharing knowledge

News Release

Leadership award for sharing knowledge

UCOL Business student Toni Graham’s readiness to share her knowledge has earned her a new award for leadership amongst students.

The novel award was the brainchild of UCOL Diploma in Business lecturer Alta Els and is sponsored by Palmerston North-based design company Blacksheepdesign. It was presented for the first time at a UCOL-Massey Business seminar held at the Coachman Hotel on 18 May.

Alta says the title of the award is unusual and very contemporary. The award title – the 'Find something you love and give it death' leadership award - was chosen by Blacksheepdesign founder Stacey Cottrill.

After completing the two year Diploma in Business at UCOL, Toni intends to do a Bachelor of Business, majoring in communications, at Massey University, before starting her own business in the Manawatu.

Toni, who is 41, previously spent 12 years working with the McDonalds chain in the North and South Islands, working her way up to the role of manager, before deciding “it was time to come home.”

Alta describes her as a star student who shares her own knowledge with other students as a way to invest in the next generation.
