Solid Energy gives $2000 to Mataura School computer suite

Mataura School hopes to find a recipe for success with a new fundraising cook book, helped by a Solid Energy donation of $2000.

The school Parent Teacher Association will use the money to produce The Mataura School Recipe Book aimed to kick-start a fundraising campaign for the school computer suite.

“We’ve got three computers in there so far, but ideally we’d like at least nine more so that there’s at least one computer between two students in a class,” says Mataura School Deputy Principal, Sarah Martin.

Classes would use the suite for such activities as making presentations or movies, publishing work, and contacting other classes in far off locations through the internet. “It would just give our kids wider options to become savvy with that sort of technology,” she said.

“Giving Mataura School’s computer suite a head-start helps expand kids’ views of the world, and gives Solid Energy a chance to give back to the Mataura community,” says Solid Energy’s New Vale Mine Manager, Antony Stodart.

Mataura School PTA president Helen McFadzien says funds are being sought for new chairs, new computers and software, and she is thankful that Solid Energy has started the ball rolling on fundraising.

The school is inviting other businesses to support the computer suite by offering 12 advertising spaces in each section of the recipe book for $200 each or $50 each for smaller spaces.
