Ministerial Appointments to Whitireia Council

Ministerial Appointments to Whitireia Council completed

Tertiary Education Minister Steven Joyce announced on Wednesday 21 April that Suzanne Snively is the final Ministerial appointment to the Councils of Wellington Institute of Technology and Whitireia Community Polytechnic.

“I am delighted to have a person of Suzanne Snively’s skills agree to continue her work within the polytechnic sector;” says Mr Joyce.

Suzanne Snively joins Roger Sowry (Chair), Dr Alan Barker (Deputy Chair) and Dennis Sharman on the Council of Whitireia and Weltec.

Under the Education (Polytechnics) Amendment Act 2009, restructuring polytechnic governance across New Zealand, Whitireia Council will include four new Ministerial appointments and four community appointments made by the outgoing Whitireia Council.

As the outgoing Chair, Dennis Sharman has been managing the community appointment process to complete the new Council. The original timeline expected ministerial appointments to be made on 15 April. “Now we have the ministerial appointments we will complete the community appointment process as soon as we are able” says Sharman. “I expect to confirm the full council membership by Friday.”

“I commend the outgoing Council for achieving challenging goals,” says Sharman. And I look forward to welcoming a new Council to Whitireia with a formal welcome. Whitireia is a complex tertiary business that achieves a wide range of outcomes, the council will continue to represent communities and business needs.”
