Change in UCOL Council

Outgoing UCOL Council Chair Duncan Milne today welcomed the Minister’s incoming ministerial appointees to UCOL’s governance body.

Following legislation passed in December, from 1 May 2010, the structure for Polytechnic Councils of up to 20 seats has now been replaced with eight-person councils, four of whom are ministerial appointees. The Minister has appointed Trevor Goodwin from Whanganui as UCOL’s new Chair, and Malcolm Inglis from Wellington as Deputy Chair.

Mr Goodwin who retired last year after 15 years as a CEO in the energy sector is currently the President of Business New Zealand as well as being a director and trustee of a number of organisations. Mr Goodwin noted that he was enthusiastic about his new role and said “that he was looking forward to working with the UCOL Council and employees to deliver the results that Tertiary Education Minister Steven Joyce expects”.

Other Ministerial appointments are David Baker and Pamela Jefferies.

Existing UCOL Council members who transition onto the new Council are Duncan Milne, Malcolm Pettman, Wiremu Te Awe Awe and Paul McElroy.

Mr Milne said that UCOL was in good heart financially and well positioned to take up the challenges of the current Government to lift its performance further.

Mr Milne also acknowledged the commitment and contribution given by outgoing Council members. Those leaving Council are: Dr Charmaine Hamilton, Judith Carter, Alan Cockrell, Sue Ireland, Jo Hymers, Rachel Lampp, John Maihi, Derek Morris, Colin Whitlock.
