Whitireia consults with community on new Council members
Sweeping changes to legislation around polytechnic Council composition mean all polytechnics are currently working through the new appointments process. Whitireia takes pride in maintaining and expanding its engagement with its communities of interest and wants to ensure that its Council has the capability to support this strategic direction.
“Legislation changing
the composition of polytechnic Councils has provided an
opportunity to consult with our various communities” says
Chair of Whitireia Community Polytechnic Council Dennis
Sharman. “The Minister of Education will appoint four
members including the Chair and Deputy Chair, and Council
will appoint four members who will bring the right skills,
experiences and qualities to take us into the future.”
A new constitutional statute was approved at the February Council meeting along with a consultation process and timeline. This includes public advertising and a public meeting on 8 March for interested people to come along and hear about the changes, process and requirements.
“What we’re looking for in potential members is a range of skills including understanding our community, business, educational, legal, accounting and governance skills, credibility within our communities of interest, and the ability to advocate for and support the culture ethos and vision of Whitireia” said Mr Sharman.
Information packs are available for interested individuals and more detail will be provided at the public meeting on 8 March at the polytechnic’s Wineera Drive campus in Porirua.
