Eight students awarded Solid Energy
tertiary scholarships
Eight students will find financing this year’s study a little easier thanks to Solid Energy tertiary scholarships.
Worth $2000 a year to each student for up to four years of study, Solid Energy’s tertiary scholarships are open to students from its mining regions -- the West Coast, Southland and the Waikato -- and are awarded annually. The scholarship recipients are:
Southland: Thomas Larsen and Simon Dowling (both Southland Boys’ High School) and Laura Wood (Southland Girls’ High School). Thomas will study engineering at the University of Canterbury, while Simon and Laura plan to study surveying at the University of Otago.
Waikato: Sam Waetford and Ben Ingram (both Hamilton Boys’ High School). Sam and Ben will studying engineering, Sam at Waikato University and Ben at the University of Canterbury.
West Coast: Sharlotte Lucas (John Paul II High School), Hannah Wood (Westland High School) and Zeke Tranter (Buller High School). All will attend the University of Canterbury, with Sharlotte studying natural resource engineering degree, Hannah law and Zeke accounting.
