NorthTec hosts region’s Chief Financial Officers

Media release: NorthTec hosts region’s Chief Financial Officers to showcase business programme offerings

NorthTec hosted a lunch for chief financial officers from key companies and organisations from around the region such as Golden Bay Cement, the Whangarei District Council, Winstone’s Aggregate and Top Energy last week. (subs Tuesday, 17 November).

Key financial and business sector representatives also attended an early evening networking event later the same day.

NorthTec’s Programme Manager - Business and Tourism, Dr Rita Shelley said that the events provided NorthTec with the opportunity to inform key decision makers in the business sector about the programmes offered by NorthTec.

“Engaging with the industry in which our graduates will be working is very important to us. We want to thank those who attended for providing us with an opportunity to build on our relationships with them so that we can ensure that our programmes continue to meet industry needs and equip our students for their future careers.”

Representatives from CPA Australia also made presentations at both events to provide information about their training. CPA stands for certified practising accountant and CPA Australia provides internationally-accredited training for business professionals. NorthTec’s business programmes provide a pathway for graduates to subsequently become CPA qualified.

Event and Relationship Manager for CPA Australia Elizabeth Leuchars said that the NorthTec-hosted events were an excellent way of informing employers about the benefits of studying business programmes at NorthTec – one of which is the opportunity to then pursue the CPA Australia professional qualification.

“The CPA Program is globally- recognised, flexible in terms of its delivery and applicable to a wide range of industry professionals and future business leaders,” she said.

CPA graduate and CPA Australia council member Israel Cooper agrees. Being professionally qualified with the CPA Australia designation has helped him to achieve his dream of working internationally and continues to provide him with access to a global network of key contacts.

“CPA Australia is very well received, especially in Asia. I was able to study remotely and complete the qualification at my own pace. It’s broader than pure accountancy and covers areas such as strategy and governance. I was the first person at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (New Zealand) to do the CPA program but the partners really came to see the benefits of it.”

NorthTec is the Tai Tokerau (Northland) region's largest provider of tertiary education, with campuses and learning centres in Whangarei, Kerikeri, Rāwene, Dargaville, Kaikohe and Kaitaia. NorthTec also has over 60 community-based delivery points from Coatesville in rural Rodney to Ngataki in the Far North.
