World drawing expert at architectural symposium

World drawing expert at Auckland architectural symposium

Professor Marco Frascari, a world authority on architectural drawing, will give the keynote address at an Auckland symposium on 13 November.

The annual Interstices Under Construction Symposium is jointly organised by the School of Architecture and Planning, National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries, at The University of Auckland, and the School of Art and Design at AUT University. This year, it is entitled The Traction of Drawing. Through a series of New Zealand and international speakers it will examine the technologies of drawing and how they exteriorise the mind and emotions, making present the invisible. How drawing forecasts, predicts and aims at a destination; how it throws itself forward in orthogonal or oblique lines; how it severs, as in sections and plans. How drawing seeks enactment and how it translates: from drawing to building and building to drawing.

Professor Frascari is the Director of the Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism at Carleton University, Ottawa (Canada) and a world authority on the history and theories of architectural drawing and representation. Frascari is recognised for his visionary approach, innovative teaching and research in theory and design.

The Traction of Drawing runs from 13 to 15 November at the Design Theatre (Building 348, 22 Symonds St), School of Architecture and Planning, The University of Auckland. Professor Frascari will deliver his keynote address: “Drawing: The Sapience of Facture and the Neurological Paradigm” at 7.00pm on Friday 13 November, at the Design Theatre. This lecture is free and open to the public.
