Best business Paper for Wintec Student
A combined effort between a Wintec student and a tutor saw a business paper take best student paper at the New Zealand Applied Business Educators conference in Rotorua recently.
Scott Robinson’s business paper, titled “how is sports marketing different for a professional team sport compared to an amateur team sport in New Zealand”, explores the monetary differences between amateur and professional teams in terms of their approaches the marketing and sponsorship.
Born from a passion for both sport and marketing, the paper took Robinson around five months to complete and he found it something of a surprise to win the award.
“I didn’t realise it was that up there. It must have been alright!” he said.
Robinson said he was most interested in the marketing side of sport, how things are different and how they can change.
“It was a hard work. I put a lot of energy into that paper.”
Business tutor Adrian France adapted and presented the paper as Robinson was not able to make the conference due to Waikato representative soccer commitments.
“Interesting discussion and questions were raised from it, which was good,” France said.
The annual conference for technology institutes was held this year at the Waiariki Institute of Technology last month.
“It’s a chance for tutors to get together and discuss problems associated with the Diploma (of Business),” France said.
