95bFM: The Thursday Wire with Hamish Fletcher

MEDIA RELEASE – fOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Coming up on the show:
Education Minister Anne Tolley announced plans at the Post Primary Teachers' Association (PPTA) national conference yesterday which will see 12,000 parents of disruptive kids puts through parenting courses. It will also give 5000 teachers from low-income areas extra training to deal with violence and disruption in the classroom. This might seem like a great idea to many of you, however, the PPTA Kate Gainsford claims the move is too little too late, and won’t deal with the immediate problem of disruptive students. She joins me on the Wire at 1215 to discuss her criticism.
Reading the headlines and listening to the radio over the last week and you might be forgiven for thinking that ‘the recession’ is over and things are on the up. Infact, according to a National Bank survey 49% of firms believe things are looking up (apparently we haven’t witnessed this kind of economic confidence since 1999). Without wanting be a fear-monger, I’m wondering if it is all as rosy as this suggests, so in an effort to find out, I’ve got Cameron Bagrie, the Chief Economist from the National Bank, on the show at 12:30 to chew the fiscal fat.

Then in the second half of the show our regular feature’s will air:

At 1330 it’s time for Dear Science with Peter Griffin from the Science Media Centre in Wellington, your weekly look at science, technlogy and the internet. We’ll be talking about the lauch of Sciblogs.conz, a new resource pooling together a wealth of knowledge on the scientific world. We’ll also look at the shoddy media coverage of 1080 poisoning in the Hauraki Gulf, a bit on the science side of yesterday’s pacific earthquakes, as well as Peter’s recent experience with audible books.

Then at 1345 you’ll all be privileged to hear the dulcet tones of Pennie Blair in Papercuts, your weekly magazine review. Today Pennie will pull apart and pour over NO Magazine which many of you may have seen on news stand or won off bfm. If you have bought it or read it then send through your thoughts.
