Adult students make their mark

Exceptional achievements by 17 mature students were highlighted recently during Wintec’s Adult Learners’ Week, with three taking away Adult Community Education (ACE) Adult Learners’ Awards recognising their efforts.

The ‘Foundation’ Adult Learner Award for introductory course students went to Uvanna Hodge.

The two recipients of the mainstream programme Adult Learner Awards were Rangi Carroll and Danny Frazer.  Rangi left school early without qualifications. Now in his mid-forties, he has been studying on the Bachelor of Media Arts (Journalism) programme following completion of an Introduction to Study certificate in 2006 followed by a Certificate in Media Arts and Certificate in Radio.

Horticulture student Danny Frazer is studying two certificates through Wintec’s School of Science and Primary Industries.  Tutors Andrew Harrison and Marlies Laser say Danny brings a fresh enthusiasm to every class, initiates relevant and interesting class discussions and mentors classmates and high school students enrolled on Wintec STAR courses.
