UCOL serves up golden hospitality

Palmerston North UCOL’s Toque d’Or team cooked and served its way to gold at this week’s ‘golden hat’ title event at the National Culinary Fare in Auckland.

The team earned top placings in both the kitchen and the restaurant event of the Toq d’Or.

Culinary students Stuart Mortensen and Hien Pham, and restaurant service student, Karl Rhodes were ‘pipped at the post’ by Canterbury’s CPIT team.

“We were beaten by one point,” says Head of Tourism and Hospitality School, Julie Poole. “But it is the best result the Palmerston North team has ever received. They did extremely well in the high pressured competition environment.”

UCOL Culinary Arts student Emma Kate Davies also earned a bronze medal for her Cervena entry in the Individual competition.

The team from Whanganui UCOL took a total of nine awards, including seven medals, at the National; Culinary Fare.
