Cotton Off Our Kids

The National Council of Women of New Zealand is delighted to be working with Family First New Zealand on the Boycott of Cotton On stores in New Zealand.

“Occasionally our organisations have found ourselves on opposite sides of the fence with some issues, but when it comes to the sexualisation of children, we absolutely see eye to eye,” said Elizabeth Bang, NCWNZ National President. “We like to see this as ‘Purse and Wallet’ power coming together.”

NCWNZ has approached like-minded organisations in New Zealand and Australia to get involved in the first stage of this campaign and together will be sending a clear message to Cotton On that their baby wear is offensive and harms our kids.

“We are in the fortunate position that for the last two months we have been engaging with a variety of NGOs around New Zealand as part of our build-up to the CEDAW Project,” said Elizabeth Bang. “New relationships have already been formed, so we will now seek support on this campaign from these other parties too.”

NCWNZ has begun issuing its Branches and their affiliates with the ‘Cotton Off Our Kids’ boycott materials and will be staging various campaign activities over the next few weeks.

“We will be relentless in our approach to removing these awful items from the shelves and ensuring that the sexualisation of children is not tolerated in New Zealand,” concludes Elizabeth Bang.
