Whitireia Community Polytechnic Announces New Dean of Business

Gerry McCullough has been appointed to the role of Dean of the Faculty of Business at Whitireia Community Polytechnic.

McCullough comes to Whitireia from the Open Polytechnic where he has worked since 1995. In 2001 he managed the introduction of e-learning within the Polytechnic and promoted international collaborative ventures. As Centre Manager for Information Sciences since 2004, he has been responsible for a variety of academic programmes, including the Bachelor of Applied Science convenorship.

“I’m delighted to advise the appointment of Gerry McCulloch who brings a wealth of education experience and expertise to Whitireia,” Whitireia Chief Executive Don Campbell says.

McCullough will bring to his new position a teaching experience that spans 24 years in the UK and New Zealand. Eleven of those years were spent in contact teaching and thirteen years in open and distance mode. He has been involved from concept to delivery with the design and implementation of undergraduate majors in the Bachelor of Business and the Bachelor of Applied Science as well as a number of diplomas and certificate programs.

McCullough says he “has a passion for adult learning which comes from experience on both sides of the classroom and the desire to develop effective learning environments to enhance and promote lifelong education.” Following time as a communications engineer and an information systems consultant, he concentrated on a career in education.

McCullough will start at Whitireia on August 10th at the beginning of Semester Two.
