Inpatient elective surgery to resume

Inpatient elective surgery to resume

Inpatient elective surgery will return to normal at Hawke’s Bay Hospital Soldiers’ Memorial from Tuesday (July 14).

Acting chief executive Warrick Frater said inpatient elective surgery would resume again next week, but would be evaluated on a day-to-day basis as it was dependant on staff numbers and available beds.

The spike of patients with acute respiratory illness had eased slightly allowing elective surgery to resume but this could change at any time, Mr Frater warned.

Increased pressure on the hospital during winter months meant elective surgery was often evaluated on a daily basis, but the spike in respiratory illness, the hospital had seen recently was out of the ordinary, and had forced the postponement of inpatient elective surgery for two weeks, he said.

Patients would be contacted regarding revised dates and times for surgery, but could call 0800 450 113 for more information.
