A kick start into radio

Young people who want a career in broadcasting are invited to apply for the next intake of the Wellington Access Radio Youth Certificate in Broadcasting.

Wellington Access Radio is recruiting vibrant 12- 16 year olds to join an eight week course covering all aspects of radio. The Wellington Access Radio Youth Certificate in Broadcasting is a hands on course, perfect for young people eager to be involved in local media.

“Broadcasting is a fast paced, exciting industry and making radio accessible to young people is a top priority for us. Our Youth Cert covers everything from announcing and producing to advertising and promotions- it’s the ultimate lead into further training”, says Laura Daly, Project Coordinator at the station.

This is the third time the Youth Certificate in Broadcasting has been run by Wellington Access Radio, each time in conjunction with industry tutors from the New Zealand Radio Training School. A new addition is two NZQA approved unit standards as part of the course.

Students also have the opportunity to be involved with Youth Zone, a popular weekly programme made by and for young people.

Wellington Access Radio is the longest serving Access Radio Station in New Zealand. The station broadcasts over 100 programmes in more than 25 languages, giving the Wellington community an insight into all walks and talks of life.

The Youth Certificate in Broadcasting has limited places and begins next week. Anyone interested should email laura@accessradio.org.nz or call 04 385 7210 for more information.
