Photo competition for tertiary student

Media Release: 27 April 2009

AA Tourism launches photo competition for tertiary students

The AA has today launched Capture New Zealand, its first ever photo competition for New Zealand tertiary students.

Peter Blackwell, General Manager of AA Tourism says “this competition is about inspiring students to get out and about, see New Zealand and take some motivating photographs. We’re always on the lookout for great New Zealand shots of real Kiwis having real Kiwi experiences. Certainly some of the best images are taken by new talent and the AA is in a position to recognise and reward students for their excellence.”

The Capture New Zealand photo competition is open to all New Zealand tertiary students (not just photographers) and there are five categories: New Zealand’s Natural Wonders, A Quintessential Kiwi Holiday, Kiwis and their Cars, New Zealand Landmarks and New Zealand People and Culture.

“The judge will be looking at the relevance of an entry to its category, if the image possesses the inspirational factor, and at the quality of the image. Is it of a commercial quality? Is it well composed? Is there good use of light? Does it demonstrate thought? Has creativity gone into capturing the moment?” says Mr Blackwell.

The winner of each category will receive a S1500 camera valued at $599 from the competition sponsor Fujifilm, and the overall Capture New Zealand winner will receive $2000 cash.

Entries close 3 August 2009 and further competition information is available online at www.aatravel.co.nz/capture
