Whitireia Poet Wins Adam Prize in Creative Writing
Lynn Jenner gave up writing at the age of twelve, when she ‘found out about Literature’, and didn’t start again until the age of forty-nine, when she made the decision to attend the Whitireia Creative Writing Programme. Lynn said she believes the atmosphere, teaching, students and mentors that form the Whitireia Creative Writing programme make it something all participants can be proud of.
Jenner completed the Whitireia Writing Programme Diploma in Creative Writing in 2004 and the Advanced Diploma in Poetry in 2007.This year she has won the prestigious Adam Prize in Creative Writing at Victoria University. Supported by Wellingtonians Denis and Verna Adam through the Victoria University Foundation, the $3000 prize is awarded annually to an outstanding student from the Masters in Creative Writing programme at Victoria’s International Institute of Modern Letters.
Jenner’s Masters Thesis is a mixture of poetry and prose . The thesis is called Dear Sweet Harry and interweaves historical characters such as Harry Houdini, Mata Hari and Katherine Mansfield with members of the author’s own family.
Jenner is a Kapiti Coast resident who has worked as a teacher, educational psychologist and counsellor, and is currently employed as a researcher.
