St Margaret’s achieves perfect subject scores
CHRISTCHURCH, Friday 16 January, 2009 - St Margaret’s International Baccalaureate students 2008 results are in.
The 2008 cohort is the largest St Margaret’s College has had since implementing the International Baccalaureate (IB)
programme in 2002.
The 2008 results saw the St Margaret’s College average score being higher than the world IB average by 2 grades, 17
perfect subject scores were achieved, 95% of students gained the Diploma and 5% the Certificate.
Feedback from former IB students is that they found the transition to tertiary study to be a smooth one; they were well
prepared, confident and felt it provided them with an edge. In some cases, students have bypassed 100 level papers as
they were in advance of that level and capable of accelerating their studies.
IB is an internationally recognized course of study which incorporates the best aspects of international education. It
is acknowledged by universities worldwide as an excellent pre- university qualification, equipping graduates with
independent learning, research and problem solving skills, academic maturity, self responsibility, resilience and the
ability to work to deadlines and manage pressure.
St Margaret’s College is the only girls school in the South Island offering the IB Diploma as a senior qualification
option. It is a leading school in the rapidly increasing group of New Zealand schools embracing and recognizing the
benefits of the IB programmes.
