Whitireia Summer School at Kapiti Campus

Whitireia Summer School, January 2009 at Kapiti Campus

Summer School at Whitireia's Kapiti Campus is taking place again this January, providing the enthusiast with inspiration, new techniques and skills from local and internationally acclaimed contemporary artists.

Five day intensive classes are being offered in; life drawing, contemporary textiles, wet and dry wool felting, natural dyes, sculpture, jewellery, book arts, poetry and paint.

2008 Whitireia Bachelor of Applied Arts grad student Billee Mutton has been invited to teach a class on Wet and Dry Felting, alongside fellow artist and friend Jill Gun. "No two people do felting the same, so we help them to find their own voice. We demonstrate some techniques then let them experiment and find their own ways. The Whitireia degree was fantastic and I'm hoping to pass some of that knowledge on."

The Felting class is just one of the eleven options available. Two of the classes 'Textiles - 'Introduction to eco colour' and 'Mapping the country'', are taught by India Flint, who is no stranger to Whitireia and has taught before at the Kapiti campus during Aotearoa Textiles Forum week October 2007 and Summer school in January 2008. "The fabulous creative arts summer school intensive at Kapiti - a beautiful region some 30 minutes north of Wellington, will be running again January 2009," reads Flint's website. Two Whitireia staff members are also returning to work over the summer, teaching classes at the Summer School. Kapiti Campus librarian Teresa Francis will be sharing her knowledge of Journal Writing and creative writing tutor Lynn Davidson is teaching a class on Poetry.

Students from Hong Kong and Australia including Darwin are amongst those that have already registered to take advantage of this hands-on opportunity to learn from the best.
