Williams, McIntyre re-elected to UC Council

Rex Williams and Trevor McIntyre have been re-elected to the University of Canterbury Council.

Graduates of the University elected Mr Williams and Mr McIntyre through a recent Court of Convocation election. Their terms will end in December 2012.

Mr Williams, who is the Council's Pro-Chancellor (Deputy Chancellor), is a Canterbury University alumnus, graduating with a BE (Hons) in 1967. He has 30 years' management experience in New Zealand, Australia and South East Asia and has held a number of directorships over the past decade. Mr Williams is currently the chairman of the West Coast District Health Board.

Mr McIntyre has a Teachers College Diploma from the former Christchurch Teachers Training College (now UC College of Education). He also has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree from Lincoln College which, at the time of his graduation in 1976, was part of Canterbury University. He has been a member of Council since 2004. In the past four years he has sat on a number of advisory groups and review panels within the College of Education. He has alo been a member of Council's Finance Committee and Vice-Chancellor’s Employment Committee.

The Council is UC's governing body. Its powers include the oversight of the University's policy, degree, financial and capital matters.
