PPTA political views to be aired at annual conference.

The biggest event on the PPTA calendar will kick off tomorrow with a political address from president Robin Duff.

The PPTA annual conference, which will be held at the Brentwood Hotel in Kilbernie Wellington, is where teachers set the agenda on the issues the association will tackle in the coming year. Topics like NCEA, disruptive students, housing costs and Tomorrow’s Schools will be hotly debated over the next three days, with a view to setting PPTA policy.

The president’s opening speech, which begins at 11am, will include a political statement on where PPTA stands on educational issues central to the coming election.

On Wednesday morning prime minister Helen Clark will be addressing the conference and on Thursday National Party education spokesperson Anne Tolley will speak.

The PPTA looks forward to hearing both what the prime minister has to offer secondary teachers over the next three years and what the opposition has in store in terms of education policy.
