National accolades for Whanganui UCOL catering and hospitality students
Whanganui UCOL catering and hospitality students have come home with accolades and industry experience from the National Culinary Fare competitions in Auckland.
The team from the School of Catering and Hospitality brought back five bronze medals, five silver medals, and two certificates of merit.
The competition was held over three days from Sunday to Tuesday earlier this week at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland. It is billed as the premier event on the hospitality calendar, and is attended by top industry professionals from around the country.
Whanganui UCOL School of Catering and Hospitality Programme Coordinator Tim Snape says the standard of competition and judging standards at this year’s competition were high, reflecting New Zealand’s increased participation at international culinary events.
“The results gained at this year’s Culinary Fare reflect the long hours of training put in by both students and staff. We are very proud of all of them,” he says.
UCOL also saw more medals, with its Palmerston North team picking up a gold and two silvers in the coveted Toque d’Or, or ‘hat of gold’ cookery, and food service team competition.
