Education policies must be made clear

With five months to go until the election it is high time all political parties come clean with their education policies, PPTA president Robin Duff says.

Questions raised today by Education Minister Chris Carter about the National Party’s funding plans for schools, highlight the need for all political parties to make their education policies clear, Mr Duff said.

“For voters to make a fully informed decision they need to start getting their heads around the facts. School funding, staffing issues, privatisation or support for private schools – we need it all clearly laid out on the table.

“Too much is at stake for our young people for voters to be in the dark at this late stage,” he said.

While the PPTA did not want to be drawn into tit-for-tat arguments between political parites, it was hugely important for voters to know exactly what they were dealing with.

“We cannot continue to operate in terms of illusion, delusion and third-hand information.

We challenge all parties to make their position on secondary education clear,” he said.
