Wintec Media Graduates Take A Bow
Wintec Media Graduates Take A Bow
Francis Malley, take a bow. That was the headline in the Northland Age when it celebrated the success of its sports journalist who won the NZ Community Newspapers' Association best junior sports reporter award on Saturday night.
Frank Malley, who joined the newspaper in 2003 and won the best junior sports journalist title in 2004, scored a rare, perhaps unique double when he was collected the best sports journalist and best photographer awards in the up to 7,500 circulation category.
Malley's journalism portfolio included stories on the Kaeo Rugby Club's efforts to recover from last year's flooding and teenager rugby player Matangi Te Wake's battle after suffering a serious head injury, while his photographs included the image above. Frank completed the National Diploma in Journalist at Wintec (Waikato Institute of Technology) in 2003. Another Wintec Diploma of Journalism graduate, John Blackwood-Ron works for the Howick and Pakuranga Times won an award in his category for the NZCN. Doreen Campbell, who graduated from Wintec with a Bachelor of Media Arts has won best Classified Sales Person for APN.
