Unisys offers 20 $1,000 grants to primary teachers

News Release

Unisys to offer twenty $1,000 grants to primary teachers

Innovative primary and intermediate teachers who inspire to receive $1k grants

Unisys New Zealand today unveiled Unisys Kidz Connect, a programme to benefit children in the classroom. Twenty successful teachers will each be given a $1000 cash grant to spend on a programme or project of their choice.

The programme is open to all fully registered teachers working in New Zealand’s state, integrated and private primary and intermediate schools (Year 1- 8), of any decile and location.

“The grants are designed to help innovative teachers undertake projects that require a modest amount of additional funding to get off the ground,” says Terry Shubkin, NZ Manager – Account and Service Delivery Management, Unisys New Zealand.
“We know we have talented teachers but they don’t always have the funds to make their ideas happen. Unisys Kidz Connect means a number of kids around New Zealand will get to participate in some innovative projects that otherwise wouldn’t have been possible.”

Ms Shubkin will head the Unisys Kidz Connect Advisory Board.

“We want teachers to be bold and imaginative with this opportunity. That’s why the grant will be given directly to the teacher. Later in the year, the teacher will show us what the grant has enabled the class to achieve.”

Applicants must explain how their project demonstrates connection and innovation, as well as how the success of the project can be shared. Success criteria for the grant are also linked back to Unisys core operating principles, team for speed (co-operation and teamwork), invent the future (forward-thinking and originality) and be bold (risk-taking and daring).

“Combining non-linear thinking with teamwork and innovative ideas is something we all can use a little more of,” says Ms Shubkin.

“If we can help teachers educate and engage with kids with these values in mind, we know that we’ll be fostering the leaders of tomorrow.”

Applications must be submitted by 26 May and are judged by the Unisys Kidz Connect Advisory Board, made up of three registered teachers, one Unisys executive and one external consultant.
