Whitireia Polytechnic goes RED HOT in The Philippines

"RED HOT from New Zealand" is a week long focus on New Zealand business and education in the heart of Manila The Philippines in early February 08.

Whitireia Polytechnic is supporting this new promotion in The Philippines, providing the focus week with a 'wearable art' style fashion parade, contemporary jewellery exhibitions, a tour by Whitireia DJs and judging of a clothing design competition that will net the Philippino winner a trip to New Zealand and tickets to an annual wearable art event in Wellington.

'Whitireia is strengthening ties with a key educational provider in the Philippines' says Whitireia Chief Executive Don Campbell. 'The week includes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Whitireia and the International Academy of Film & Television (part of Big Foot Studios) in Cebu, The Philippines.' The agreement promotes student exchanges between digital filmmaking programmes in Cebu and the Bachelor of Applied Arts at Whitireia.

Organised by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and championed by New Zealand Ambassador to The Philippines David Pine, Red Hot from New Zealand Week kicks off with a Golf Tournament followed by fashion parades and a three day trade show from 7 February. Fashion Tutor from Whitiriea's Bachelor of Applied Arts programme, Deb Donnelly says the 10 'wearable art' style gowns created by Whitireia graduates will provide a fashion show with a difference. Also in the show are EGG, Pumpkin Patch and Kia Kaha clothing ranges. The parade takes place at the Ball room of Mackati Shangri La Hotel.

Alongside the fashion show, Whitireia jewellery tutors Owen Mapp and Deckers are displaying contemporary jewellery pieces. Whitireia music tutors DJ Raw and DJ Shan are performing at the event, kicking off a three gig tour in The Philippines.
