UCOL Ready To Move

UCOL Ready To Move

Whanganui UCOL staff are ready to move into their new campus on Taupo Quay early next year at the end of January/early February. Offices and teaching resources are packed ready to go to the new campus, and staff are moving into temporary accommodation in January while gear is transported and set up in the new campus. The Information Centre staff who give course advice and help with enrolments have already shifted to 15 Victoria Avenue. “They are enjoying being a part of the central city buzz and part of Wanganui’s main shopping street. We also have UCOL representatives talking with shoppers about the new campus, the courses on offer and how to find out more” said Suzanne Frecklington, Principal of Whanganui UCOL.

“It’s an exciting time with lots to look forward to next year. At the same time it is with a tinge of sadness that staff are saying goodbye to their current offices as many good times and memories have been had there” said Ms Frecklington.

An official closing ceremony of buildings used in 2007 by UCOL took place at the Main Campus in Campbell Street on 21 December. Many staff, iwi and people associated with Whanganui UCOL and the Wanganui Regional Community Polytechnic attended the proceedings with Kaumatua John Maihi conducting a formal Whakawaatea. A Maihi or entrance carving by artist Rua Cribb was dismantled as part of the proceedings and will be stored safely until it is re-erected on the new campus in the New Year.
