Annah Stretton - Back In The Classroom
Annah Stretton is to take up the role of Fashion Designer in Residence at Wintec (Waikato Institute of Technology) in Hamilton.
With more than fourteen years high-profile experience in fashion retail and with a platform of more than 32 stores throughout the country, Stretton’s knowledge of the industry and business practice will be of huge benefit to students studying what is a uniquely practice focused programme.
Stretton said she is excited about guiding young fashion students through “the “realities of survival and success in the real fashion world”.
Stretton has worked with Wintec’s advisory board in establishing the fashion design and practice diploma, being offered at Wintec’s Hamilton City Campus from the new year.
Annah Stretton was awarded an Honorary Master of Arts for her services to fashion by Wintec in 2005. She says the opportunity to work at the chalk face reinforces her desire to support the future of New Zealand fashion.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge of inspiring and guiding the learning of others,” she said.
The Diploma in Fashion Design and Practice is the first of its kind in New Zealand, offering a balance of fashion design, production and technology, with an understanding of business processes, fashion retailing and export. Graduates will leave with a knowledge of fashion design and production, but also an understanding of how to build and manage a successful fashion business.
Stretton will be based at Wintec during both semesters in 2008, lecturing both Fashion Retailing and the Business of Fashion.
