Correspondence School welcomes ERO review findings
The Correspondence School welcomes the findings of a review by the Education Review Office (ERO), which provide valuable information on areas where the School is performing well and areas that require further improvement.
Chief Executive Mike Hollings says the review's findings are helpful, and that the School has already begun work to improve its performance in areas highlighted by ERO.
"We already have initiatives underway to improve Maori student achievement, the quality of our assessment and achievement information, and quality teaching," says Mr Hollings.
"ERO commended the School on a number of good initiatives and practices, including the quality of the School's governance documents, which set clear strategic direction and expectations and give priority to coherent development and ongoing improvement in teaching and learning.
"So we are well-positioned to move forward
and make significant progress over the next two
years."
ERO has agreed to work with the School to provide
evaluation information that will complement the School's
self-review processes.
"With the School's future and financial stability secure, we are now focused on building our organisational capacity through professional development, crossschool work on assessment and quality, and self-review," says Mr Hollings.
"These processes will also enable us to make improvements in other areas highlighted by ERO as needing further work, such as developing our leadership capacity and building on existing good practice."
The findings of the review come at a time when the School is looking at how to best organise itself to better meet the needs of students.
"We are developing a new organisational design and structure to enhance our focus on students, and will be considering how we can address the issues raised by ERO as part of that process, in addition to the work we are already doing."
