Last two places taken for final of AON Maadi Cup
Last two places taken for final of 2007 AON Maadi Cup
St Bede’s College and Wanganui Collegiate School made to the final of New Zealand Rowing’s most famous trophy – the AON Maadi Cup –today with accomplished rows in rough conditions at Lake Karapiro.
St Bede’s made it through the first repecharge in 6 minutes 5.5 seconds and overcame a decent late attack by Rotorua Boys High School in the closing few hundred metres. Wanganui booked their place in the final with a 6 minutes 2 second row for the 2,000 metre course.
In the premier women’s event, the Levin Jubilee Cup, Nelson, Baradene College, Kings College School, Waikato Diocesan, St Margaret’s and Sacred Heart Girls College all made it through to Thursday’s semi and their last chance to make Saturday’s final.
With today reserved primarily for repecharges and including many of the younger and less experienced rowers, there was plenty of incident and action on the water with many of the winning crews being those who made the fewest mistakes on very difficult water.
