Teachers Council Dispute Facts In Dominion Article
Date 15 January 2007
CORRECTION TO NZPA ARTICLE
Nats up ante over smacking teacher.
The Director of the New Zealand Teachers Council corrected errors in the NZPA article printed in the Dominion Post, 15 January 2007, Nats up ante over smacking teacher.
The article incorrectly stated that of the 16 decisions that were made public, only four of the teachers were declined permission to teach.
The facts are these:
Seventeen decisions of the Disciplinary Tribunal were released. Of these, 13 teachers were de-registered, one was suspended from teaching and the Tribunal accepted the voluntary de-registration of one other teacher.
The two teachers who have been allowed to continue to teach have had strict conditions imposed on their continuing practice.
One of these teachers is not able to continue teaching in a supervisory role until she has completed re-training and her registration has been annotated to reflect this decision.
The other teacher has been required to undergo regular drug and alcohol testing and counselling for a minimum period of 2 years.
